Aggression can be loosely
defined as any time your
dog uses his teeth deliberately
to warn, make a point
or harm. This includes
everything from simply
baring his teeth while
growling over a food bowl
or favorite toy, to the
occasional nip or outright
bite.
Diagnosing aggression and
its causes takes many,
many years of experience
to do correctly. Here
in New York, we are lucky
enough to have a professional
behaviorist, Victoria
Wells, who is magnificently
qualified in this kind
of work. Victoria currently
runs the behavior department
at the ASPCA and has her
own private practice in
which she consults on
aggression cases.
If you come to Big Apple
Dog School with an aggression
issue, we will require
that you arrange for a
consultation with Victoria,
during which we will be
present. Should Victoria
deem your dog’s
case particularly difficult
to handle, we will encourage
you to retain her services
rather than our own. In
many cases, however, Victoria
will recommend a course
of treatment, which we
will then work on with
you and your dog.
Please feel free to discuss
this with us in person
at 917-747-7657.
