Dog runs are a great way for dogs to interact with their own kind off-leash. This kind of interaction is critical for socialization and for burning off energy.

Manhattan is blessed with eighteen dog runs:

West Side (42nd to 96th):

  • DeWitt Clinton Park (2 runs) — West 52nd Street and West 54th Street, between 11th and 12th Avenues
  • Riverside Park (3 runs) — Riverside Drive at West 72nd, West 87th and West 105th Streets
  • Theodore Roosevelt Park— Central Park West at West 81st Street

East Side (42nd to 96th):

  • Carl Schurz Park (2 runs) — East End Avenue to East River from Gracie Square (East 84th Street) to 89th Street
  • Robert Moses Park — 41st and 42nd Streets at 1st Avenue
  • Peter Detmold Park — West of the FDR Drive, between East 49th and East 51st Streets

Uptown (Above 96th Street):

  • Fort Tryon Park — Margaret Corbin Drive, Washington Heights
  • Inwood Hill Park — Dyckman Street and Payson Avenue
  • J. Hood Wright — Fort Washington and Haven Avenues at West 173rd Street
  • Morningside Park — Morningside Avenue between 114th and 119th Streets
  • Riverside Park — West 105th Street

Midtown (42nd Street to Union Square):

  • Madison Square Park — Madison Avenue to 5th Avenue between East 23rd and East 26th Streets
    Thomas Smith Park— 11th Avenue, West 22nd to West 23rd Streets

Downtown (Union Square and below):

  • Fish Bridge Park — Dover Street, between Pearl and Water Streets
    Tompkins Square Park — 1st Avenue to Avenue B, from East 7th to East 10th Streets
  • Washington Square Park — 5th Avenue, Waverly Place, West 4th Street, between McDougal and Thompson Streets, south side of the park (behind building)
  • Union Square Dog Run — 15th Street and Union Square West
