Big Apple Training About Dogs Common Dog Problems Big Apple Information

These classes are for children 7–10 who have the maturity to begin taking on additional responsibilities with the household dog.

The emphasis here is on building the child’s understanding of and empathy for another living creature, strengthening the bond between child and dog and boosting self-esteem. We employ a mix of basic obedience taught in a way kids can relate to, tricks for fun and prizes for good behavior (both child and dog!).

What your child and dog will learn in a Big Apple Dog School Kids Class:

Child:

  • Empathy for the household pet
  • Basic dog-training theory, strengthening the child’s understanding of cause and effect
  • Patience
  • Basic dog care

Dog (to varying degrees of competency, depending on the child):

  • Sit
  • Down
  • Stay
  • Come
  • Circles (left and right)
  • Kiss Me!
  • Roll Over
  • Options to chewing
  • Bite inhibition
  • Proper Leash Walking

All dogs attending must be completely aggression-free and well exercised BEFORE each class, and even though the child will be the handler, an adult must remain present at all times. Bring a picnic blanket for sitting!
